I completed an LLM in Law & Entrepreneurship (LLMLE). As a licensed attorney in Raleigh-Durham, I began working with several entrepreneurs, and after finding enjoyment in this area of law, I chose to complete my LLMLE to gain a more robust understanding of all legal scenarios faced by startup companies.

The Varying Perceptions of the LLM
May 21, 2019I highly recommend speaking to as many graduates of the program(s) as possible. Reach out to people and find out why they chose to pursue an LLM and how they reflect upon their experiences.
The LLMLE was very different than my JD/MBA experience in due to my ability to really sculpt my curriculum. Each course I took, I took for a specific educational reason, whereas during my JD/MBA, courses were often taken simply to check the necessary boxes.
My most fond memory of my LLMLE actually came just prior to graduation when I was working on acquisition terms/docs for a company. At one point, the party on the other side of the deal noted that they could tell I had gone to Duke, in comparison to their counsel who had been in this industry for over 5 years. This was flattering, however, I knew that my advantage derived from my completion of the LLMLE, rather than simply attending Duke.
