I went to Canada on an exchange program in 2015. I fell in love with the country. This assumption that it’s full of Indians is wrong. It’s such a diverse country. You meet anyone from anywhere anytime! Also, I did research it’s easier to become a part of country. I came as a student. I’m a permanent resident right now. The health benefits are amazing. The work opportunities are very good. It’s a young bar, you meet well established lawyers who are so young. It’s easy to connect with them. There’s room for growth in this country. They’re not set in their ways. So you get to always contribute in your little way.
Look, it’s super cold. We went to -37 at one point. But I’m from Bombay which essentially doesn’t know what winter is. I didn’t find it tough at all. The rooms are heated. The public transport is heated. Washrooms are heated. You need to be in the cold for very little time. Because you always find yourself in a warm situation. It’s really beautiful the winter.
I didn’t do them. I did a course with Osgoode which helped me satisfy the NCA requirements without doing the exams. But from what I’ve heard. They’re not tough. You get notes for the exams.
Definitely my criminal class. I was taught by Justice Enzo Rondinelli. He wrote a criminal law commentary which was prescribed for us. And the next thing we know is that he’s in front of us teaching! He was really amazing. All our classes were taught with examples of cases that he actually presided over. It was a real fan girl moment. Also I was part of the criminal law society and we did a samosa sale to raise funds for an event. Again, so amusing but fun. Lastly, the beach of Toronto is beautiful. It’s a ferry ride away and so peaceful.
